Leader ...or Follower ...today's million dollar question for church and nonprofit fundraising.
It's your choice -- which are you?
The number one thing I consistently hear from organizations is that they want to get grants. And sadly I've heard this same major, tactical error for over 20 years.
Today -- as our country, and the world, swirl in an unprecedented economic crisis like no other in history -- Google searches for the words grant and grants have soared to over 16 million searches each month. Dramatically up from the previous 2,740,000 monthly average Google searches for grants.
As of 2007 American donations to charities topped $300 million. Only about 12.5 percent of all private donations to charities each year come from grants -- yet grants continue to be seen by churches and nonprofits as the holy grail of funding. When, in fact, grant funding represents only a small piece of the private funding pie.
Why does the grants myth continue? For over 20 years I have worked with many nonprofits--the reality is identifying, cultivating and soliciting sustainable funding sources takes time and ongoing commitment to relationship building. Few nonprofits are willing to do what most essentially needs to be done to ensure sustainable funding to support furthering the mission of their organization.
Today I continue to see the vast majority of churches and nonprofits consistently make three vital errors -- yet by simply correcting these three tactical errors, each one could have significant "competitive" advantages from amongst the literally tens of thousands of other churches and nonprofits out there "competing" for the same pool of donation resources.
Thus my consulting and coaching services have evolved to working on an ongoing basis with only those organizations that are truly ready, willing and able (...all three) to do what must be done to ensure success.
Which are you? A Leader? Or a Follower?

If you don't know where you're going, any road can take you there.
The days of churches and nonprofits easily securing funding simply because they do good work/deeds ...are long gone.
